Big crowds expected at A&P Show

New Zealand's biggest agricultural and pastoral show has got even larger. Organisers expect 100,000 people through the gates for the Canterbury A&P Show, opening today in Christchurch.

Event director Geoff Bone said that livestock, equestrian and shearing and woodchopping entries are all up this year.

"Our horse entries are pretty much at record levels. The equestrian section of the show just seems to go from strength to strength. We're now up to 3500 entries.

"Our sheep and wool entries are up as well, which is also a wonderful sign for the industry. We like to work as hard as we can to keep the sheep guys engaged but right throughout Canterbury, Marlborough, Otago, Nelson, we get great entries and Boer goats, I might add, are also at record levels."

Mr Bone said fine weather was forecast for the three days of the 152nd show.
