Textile NZ trade delegation to Russia optimistic

5:54 pm on 12 June 2010

Textile New Zealand says its first trade delegation to Moscow has returned brimming with confidence over the future of the wool trade with Russia.

Seven companies took part in the delegation that returned earlier this week.

Textile NZ chief executive Elizabeth Tennet says the textile industry in Russia is in a state of disarray, but there is huge interest in, and potential for, high-quality value-added woollen products from this country.

Ms Tennet says that the Russian market is very keen to produce its own carpets, rugs and blankets, and that an emerging middle class is seeking high-quality woollen products.
