New figures issued by ACC shows that one farmer dies in a work-related accident every 28 days.

Thirteen farmers died in accidents on last year and more than 18,500 were injured, costing ACC more than $66 million in claims.

ACC says the most common causes of accidents were poor handling of quad bikes and tractors.

It has issued three new safety booklets to help farmers reduce the risk of injury.
