Most wool prices still up

Buyer demand overcame the negative effects of a stronger New Zealand dollar to lift prices for most of the wool on offer at the North Island sale in Napier of Thursday.

Wool Services International reports that prices for fine crossbred wools were generally firm.

Good and average-style coarse fleece wool and coarse shears were up to 1% dearer and first lambs fleece rose by up to 2%.

However, prices for poorer-style coarse fleece were affected by the currency factor and softened by up to 2%.

With only 6000 bales on offer, the supply was limited, but 80% was still sold. Main demand came from Australasian carpet mills and India and China.
