Young fruit growers to compete for national title

11:42 am on 30 June 2015

Young fruit growers nationwide have been competing in regional championships in the lead up to the national competition in a few months' time.

Katikati man Craig Ward, who works as a technical advisor for avocado and kiwifruit post harvest operator Apata Group, won the Bay of Plenty Young Fruit Grower's title.

Earlier this month, Hastings man Andrew Kearney won the Hawke's Bay Young Fruit Grower title. Mr Kearney is a senior leading hand for Turners and Growers.

The Young Grower of the Year competition will be held in August in Christchurch, where contestants will perform a series of challenges to test their skills at running a fruit growing business.
