Previously food safety and food quality have been audited and assessed separately, but accreditation to Food Safety System Certification 22000 - Quality gives companies the option of combining food safety and quality management systems into one certification.

This provides customers with the assurances of international best-practice in both food safety and quality.

Fonterra director New Zealand manufacturing Mark Leslie said safe food, safe people and world class quality underpinned everything Fonterra did, so the certification was in keeping with the importance it placed on each of these critical aspects of the business.

Food safety assurance company AsureQuality is also the first in the world to be an accredited provider of the Food Safety Certification System.
