Orcon steps up rural wireless broadband marketing

Orcon is increasing its marketing for a wireless broadband service targeting rural customers, that runs on its parent Kordia's network.

State-owned Kordia commissioned Orcon to sell the broadband service after Telecom stopped re-selling it, having gained only 2500 customers.

The wireless network can take up to 11,000 customers. Orcon will provide satellite broadband if they are in areas where the network does not work.

Orcon's chief executive Scott Bartlett says the focus is on doubling the number of customers on the network.

Once the network has enough customers, Orcon will start investing in new wireless technology, Wifi.
