Sheep and cattle farmers in Hawke's Bay have raised more than $40,000 for the Christchurch Earthquake Fund.

More than 350 sheep and one cow were donated for Monday's sale at the Stortford Lodge yards in Hastings.

Livestock agent Ken Simpson, who organised the stock drive, is confident that with more stock promised for sales in Hastings over the next fortnight, the final total raised for Christchurch will be in excess of $50,000.
