Braeburn exporters look for increased sales

Pipfruit New Zealand says every effort is being made this year to co-ordinate the supply of Braeburn apples to overseas markets.

Chief executive Peter Beaven says securing profitable returns last year for the variety proved a challenge, and this year's export tonnage will be much greater.

He says the issue is that the variety goes to tradition markets in Europe and Britain, which take a finite volume.

Mr Beaven says Russia is one country where there's an opportunity for increased sales.

He says Braeburn should prove to be popular with Australian consumers, when New Zealand apple exports start there in earnest next year.
