The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade says the agriculture industry needs to maintain its momentum in developing international markets.

MFAT chief executive John Allen told the International Farm Management Congress in Canterbury, that the agriculture sector needs to seize further opportunities in those markets to build farm wealth.

He said that while work needs to continue in lowering or removing trade barriers, the industry also needs to recognise the importance of science, and the development of new leaders.

Mr Allen said collaboration of industry players were also necessary to ensure that these opportunities were actually delivered.
