Health Minister Tony Ryall says rural general practice nurses could be part of next year's voluntary bonding scheme.
The scheme is designed to attract doctors and other health workers to areas where vacancies are hard to fill, by offering a financial incentive.
The Rural General Practice Network Chair Dr Scott-Jones says the sector has a severe shortage of nurses, and the bonding scheme could provide much-needed relief.
Mr Ryall says the priorities this year are mental health and aged care, and rural general practice nurses haven't made the priority list but this is reviewed every 12 months.
