Federated Farmers is questioning the management of the Crafar farm receivership.
President Bruce Wills says New Zealand farmers were locked out of the sale process because they could not buy the farms individually.
There were two unsuccessful bids for the farms by New Zealand groups.
Mr Wills says the receivership dragged on since December 2009, was costly, and disadvantaged individual farmers.
He says it's a process he does not want to see repeated.
Mr Wills says there are a lot of individuals who wanted to put a bid in for one or some of the properties, but weren't able to.
The former owner of the farms, Allan Crafar, says he will taking legal action against the Government's decision to sell the farms to Shanghai Pengxin.
