ETS uncertainty seen as not helping forest investment

The New Zealand Institute of Forestry says ongoing uncertainty over the Emissions Trading Scheme is not helping with investment in forestry.

Minister of Forestry David Carter says forestry and other primary industries will be the leaders in pulling this country out of recession.

The Government moved to review the Emissions Trading Scheme late last year only a month after the law was passed. It's now before a select committee.

The institute says investment in forestry to help offset carbon emissions won't take off until the Government firms up its policy.

Mr Carter says the Government's looking to have the legislative review of the emissions trading scheme finished by the end of April.
