Judging begins in national dairy awards

6:57 am on 13 February 2012

Judging has begun in the process to select the winners in this year's Dairy Industry Awards from the record 525 entrants.

Twelve regional competitions will select the best to go on to the national finals of the Sharemilker/Equity Farmer, Farm Manager and Dairy Trainee of the Year contests.

Judging is taking place in February and involves a two hour on-farm presentation for entrants in the sharemilker and farm manager contests.

Entrants in the dairy trainee contest will compete in a 30-minute practical session.

By the end of March, 525 entrants will have been whittled down to 36 regional winners who will head to the national final in Auckland in May.

The first regional winners for Hawke's Bay Wairarapa will be announced on 28 February.
