The young New Zealand golf star Lydia Ko has been pipped for the top amateur honour at the World Ladies Championship in China.

14-year-old Ko struggled to a final round 4 over par 76 to finish 28th overall and two shots behind China's Jing Yan who finished top amateur.

If Ko had won the amateur honours she would have received a number of tournament exemptions.

She now returns home for a much deserved break after a long stretch of tournament golf.
