Otago Rugby given another week to avoid liquidation

The cash-strapped Otago Rugby Union has won another temporary reprieve to stave off liquidation.

They've been given another week to secure a rescue package, with the New Zealand Rugby Union chief executive Steve Tew saying good progress is being made.

But he says the rescue options remain complicated, and all parties still need to come together to ensure a new plan is viable.

The 131-year-old union has debts of over two million dollars and is unable to pay players' wages and administrative staff or their bills.
