Andy Murray has made a shock exit again from the first Masters tennis event of the year, in Indian Wells, California.

Murray, the fourth seed, has lost to the Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez ranked 92nd in the world, 6-4 6-2 after having a first round bye.

The Scot lost his opening match at the same time last year, going out to the unheralded American Donald Young, and he was at a loss to explain two crushingly early departures from the hardcourt tournament in the California desert.

The world number one Novak Djokovic had a straight forward win over a qualifier from Kazakhstan to move nto the third round.
