Carter kicks first goal at new stadium

The Crusaders first five-eighth Dan Carter has marked a major milestone in the journey to bring the Crusaders back home by kicking the first ball over the goal posts at the new Christchurch Stadium.

The new stadium's nearing completion but work will continue up until almost kick-off of the first Super Rugby game against the Cheetahs next Saturday.

The turf is down, seating is in, lights have been tested, and field markings are down.

The installation of the goal posts was another major step towards the Crusaders having a home stadium again, and Carter helped construction staff at the stadium guide the posts into position, then had the honour of kicking the first ball over the posts.

The Cheetahs game will be the Crusaders' first in Christchurch since May 2010.

Carter hopes to play in that game after recovering from the groin injury that forced him out of the World Cup.
