The American Andy Roddick has shocked Roger Federer in three sets to end the Swiss tennis great's 16-match winning streak at the Miami Masters and make the fourth round.

It's just Roddick's third victory over Federer in 24 meetings.

The 29-year-old took the first set in a tiebreak but 30-year-old Federer got the first break of the match in the second game of the second set, then broke twice more to close out the set 6-1.

Roddick struck back early in the decisive third set with his first break to go 2-1 up himself and went on to take the set 6-4 and win the match.

His powerful forehand was back to its best and Roddick, who has slumped to 34th in the world, was strong on serve, winning 69 percent of first service points.

The win was Roddick's first over a top three player since beating Novak Djokovic in Cincinnati in 2010.
