Shanks gold medal some consolation for cyclist

New Zealand Cyclist Alison Shanks says winning gold at the UCI Track Cycling World championships in Melbourne last night was the best consolation prize she could have received, given the race won't feature at the London Olympics this year.

Shanks topped off New Zealand's most successful championships by winning the women's 3000m individual pursuit.

It was bittersweet though, knowing she is in the form of her life, in a discipline that is no longer on offer at the Olympics.
