New Zealand beat PNG at under 17 football tournament opener

Defending champions New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea had first up wins at the Oceania Football Confederation under 17 womens's championships in Auckland yesterday.

PNG ground out a one-nil win over New Caledonia while New Zealand triumphed seven-nil against the Cook Islands.

The winner of the championship will qualify for the FIFA under 17 women's world cup in Azerbaijan in September.

The OFC under 20 women's championship will begin today in Auckland with the winner of the four team competiton earning a start at the FIFA under 20 world cup in Japan in August.
