The defending champion Joshua Carmichael is the leader at the halfway stage of the Taranaki Energy Open on the Charles Tour after a second round one under par 71 in blustery conditions at the New Plymouth Golf Club.

Carmichael sits at six under par for the tournament one shot ahead of Ryan Fox, Jared Pender and Grant Moorhead who're tied for second.

Joint first round leader Mark Brown struggled with a three over par 75, to drop back to a share of ninth place.

Meanwhile this year's New Zealand Golf Open will again be played at the Clearwater course in Christchurch.

It'll run from November 22nd to 25th, with a New Zealand golf not having won the event for ten years.
