New Zealand professional Richard Lee has climbed to a share of second place at the Token Homemate Cup on the Japan Golf Tour with a four under par 67 in the second round, in the first event of the season.

The North Harbour player, who is back on the Japan Tour after earning his card in qualifying last year, is two shots back from the leader Tatsunori Nukaga of Japan.

The 38-year-old is looking to have a better season in Japan in 2012 after he made only five cuts from 13 events last year with his best performance a tie for 30th at the Toshin Golf Tournament in Lake Wood.

David Smail, a five-time winner on the Japan Golf Tour, shot a one under 70 in round two to climb to 58th and sneak inside the cut line by one shot on a one over total.
