Chiefs head Super Rugby competition

The Chiefs have moved to the top of the super rugby competition with a 39-33 win against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Three tries within seven minutes late in the second half enabled the Chiefs to secure a bonus point and move two points ahead of Western Stormers on the combined table and five points in front of the Highlanders, who a had a round eight bye, in the New Zealand conference.

Chiefs scored five tries to two and always looked the more likely winners -- but they trailed 20-25 with 18 minutes to go.

Tongan international prop Sona Taumalolo scored two tries for the Chiefs, who also scored through right wing Lelia Masaga and centres Sonny Bill Williams and Richard Kahui.

First five Aaron Cruden added four conversions and two penalties.
