Kangaroos debutant expects hostile reception in Auckland

7:32 am on 17 April 2012

The Kangaroos debutant James Tamou has been warned to expect a Quade Cooper-type reception from a hostile Auckland league crowd on Friday.

The Australian captain Cameron Smith says the selection of New Zealand-born Tamou, who officially pledged his allegiance to Australia only last week, was sure to raise the ire of those on this side of the Tasman - but he said it was something Tamou was expecting.

The Wallabies New Zealand-born star Quade Cooper endured a horror Rugby World Cup last year when he was tormented by New Zealand fans.

Tamou was born in Palmerston North and he qualifies for the Kangaroos having moved to Australia as a teenager, though he says New Zealand will always be home.

The strapping hooker will start on the bench.
