Postecoglou takes over at Victory

2:39 pm on 26 April 2012

Just four days after leading Brisbane Roar to back-to-back A-League football championships, Ange Postecoglou has been confirmed as Melbourne Victory's new coach.

Postecoglou joins the Victory on a three-year deal after rewriting the A-League record books at the Roar.

The former Socceroo and South Melbourne playing great has won four national titles as a coach - two in the old National Soccer League with South and two with the Roar.

As well as two A-League grand final wins, Postecoglou guided the Roar to a record 36-match unbeaten streak over an 18-month period.

It is an all-time Australian top-flight football code streak, breaking New South Wales rugby league side Eastern Suburbs' record set 74 years ago.

Postecoglou will be the Victory's fourth coach in 13 months after Ernie Merrick, Mehmet Durakovic and Jim Magilton were all either sacked or released.

The news of his leaving Brisbane came just hours after he had addressed thousands of fans in Brisbane's CBD following a ticker-tape parade for the Roar's championship-winning team.

He becomes the Victory's fourth coach in little more than 12 months.

Two-time championship-winning mentor Ernie Merrick was sacked in March last year, while Mehmet Durakovic and stand-in Jim Magilton were also both dumped after short stints in charge.
