Multiple world champion Sebastien Loeb picked up one of the second day's opening three special stages to maintain his lead in the Rally of Argentina.

The Citroen DS driver clocked the fastest time in stage seven with his closest rival and teammate Mikko Hirvonen winning stages eight and nine to lie 2.1 seconds behind the Frenchman.

Loeb had held a 0.1s advantage over Hirvonen after the first day's opening six stages in this fifth leg of the 2012 world rally championship.

Third in the overall standings is Spaniard Dani Sordi, at one minute 30.7s.

Sordi has replaced the injured Jari-Matti Latvala for Ford.
