Pakistani match fixer to be released

The former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Asif will be released from a British prison tonight after completing half of his one-year sentence for spot-fixing.

29-year-old Asif was sent to prison last November after he was found guilty of conspiring to cheat, and conspiring to accept corrupt payments over deliberate no-balls bowled during the Lord's Test against England in August 2010.

Asif's lawyer says the player might stay in England to consider the possibility of launching an appeal against his conviction.
