Buderus ruled out of Origin opener

The Newcastle league hooker Danny Buderus has been ruled out of the opening game of the State of Origin series with Achilles tendinitis.

The former Blues skipper had been a certainty to return to the side for the first time since 2008 having rejoined the Knights following a three-year stint with the English Super League side Leeds.

34-year-old Buderus will be sidelined for up to a month, so he'll miss the opening Origin game in Melbourne on the 23rd of this month.

It's the latest blow for coach Ricky Stuart, who's already lost the services of utility Kurt Gidley with a dislocated shoulder.
