Man City are on brink of EPL title

9:23 am on 7 May 2012

Manchester City have taken a huge step toward their first English Premier League football title since 1968 after beating Newcastle United 2-nil.

City's Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure scored both goals in the last 20 minutes of their second to last game of the season, while Manchester United beat Swansea 2-nil.

With one match to play, both clubs have 86 points, but City's goal difference of 63 is eight better than United's.

In the final round City are at home to relegation-threatened Queens Park Rangers and champions United travel to mid-table Sunderland.

If they both win, City will be champions as long as United don't go above them on goal difference.

Tottenham Hotspur missed the chance to leapfrog Arsenal and move into third place when they could only draw 1-all with Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Arsenal stay in third place followed by Spurs, Newcastle and Chelsea who have two matches to play.

Toward the bottom of the table QPR improved their chances of relegation with a 1-nil win over Stoke City, their fifth successive home win.

Bolton Wanderers are deep in trouble in 18th place after being held to a 2-2 draw at home by West Bromwich Albion, conceding two goals in the last 16 minutes.
