Sissons boosts his Olympic triathlon prospects finishing second in Mexico

Standby Olympic triathlete Ryan Sisson's has overcome the heat to finish second in the latest World Cup event in Mexico.

Sissons who was the sole New Zealander competing in the event has been named in London Games team subject to confirmation at the end of the month that New Zealand can select a third triathlete for the Games.

Sissons on the swim leg and went into the bike stage near the back of the field.

He managed to join the lead bunch on the bike stage and then posted the second fastest time on the run to finish behind only Belgium's Simon De Cuyper.

Sissons' result provides crucial ranking points with only the top eight nations being allowed a third Olympic representative.

He will compete in San Diego next weekend.
