The New Zealand cyclist Jack Bauer has helped his American team Garmin to victory on the fourth stage of the Giro d'Italia, a 32-kilometre team time trial around Verona.

The result has also put Bauer's team-mate Ramunas Navardauskas of Lithuainia into the tour leader's pink jersey, while the next three spots are also filled by Garmin riders.

Bauer is 32nd overall, 45 seconds off the lead, while fellow New Zealander Jesse Sergent of RadioShack is 18th, 36 seconds off the lead.

Garmin also leads the team classification.

Tonight's fifth stage is a 199-kilometre ride from Modena to Fano.
