Burmester says CEO resignation step in right direction

The former New Zealand swimmer Moss Burmester says yesterday's resignation of Swimming New Zealand's chief executive Mike Byrne is a step in the right direction for the sport.

Byrne stepped down following last week's release of a damning report into the organisation.

Burmeister, who retired from the sport in 2010 citing distrust in Swimming New Zealand, says it now needs to re-set its priorties before a new appointment is made.

He says it's about looking at the structure of the organisation and understanding what's best for the sport and swimmers, and then determing who the right person is to do that job.
