New Zealand men's hockey team lift trophy for first time

The New Zealand men's hockey team defeated Argentina 1-0 to lift the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup for the first time in the 21-year history of the annual tournament in Malaysia.

Andy Hayward scored for the Black Sticks in the 18th minute courtesy of a penalty corner.

Argentina, ranked ninth in the world, were awarded two penalty corners but the New Zealand keeper Kyle Pontifex denied them on both occassions.

During the tournament New Zealand, ranked seventh in the world, also had wins over India, who are ranked 10th, and Pakistan, ranked eighth.
