Casey Martin drives to another US Open

11:46 am on 6 June 2012

Casey Martin, the American golf pro who won a legal battle in the late 1990s to ride in a golf cart, has qualified for next week's US Open championship, and he'll be returning to the Olympic club in San Francisco where he played the 1998 Open and tied for 23rd.

The 40-year-old Martin has a rare circulatory disorder in his right leg, making it impossible for him to walk 18 holes.

The former Stanford University team-mate of Tiger Woods sank a five-foot putt in near darkness on the last hole of his qualifying tournament to earn a place in next week's Open field.
