Mystics beat Steel in ANZ Championship

The Northern Mystics have overcome a half-time deficit to beat the Southern Steel 60-49 and return to the top of the ANZ championship netball standings.

The Mystics were down by four goals at the break in Auckland before surging home in the second half for their eighth win of the season.

The Mystics had started with Maria Tutaia and Grace Rasmussen in the shooting circle, but it was the introduction of the most accurate shooter in the competition, Catherine Latu, at half-time which was the defining factor.

Former Silver Ferns captain Adine Wilson, called out of retirement to help the ailing Steel, entered the match in the final quarter. But the Steel needed more than a wise head to crack the Mystics, who immediately added another three before the Steel could answer, and then kept on accumulating at pace.

Tutaia was the outstanding shooter of the match, scoring 33 from 39 attempts, while Latu missed only one in her second half with her contribution of 22.

The Mystics are top of the standings and the Steel second from bottom.
