Hamblin won't be going to Olympics

The runner Nikki Hamblin will no longer be vying for a place in New Zealand's Olympic Games squad after a scan found a tear in her achilles tendon.

The Commonwealth Games double silver medallist bettered the selection standard for the 1500 metres twice last year and won the New Zealand title in March.

Meanwhile, New Zealand heptathletes Rebecca Wardell and Sarah Cowley have both pulled out of an event in Ratingen, Germany.

Wardell, who was leading after day one, quit the competition after twinging a hamstring.

She'll make another attempt to qualify for the New Zealand team at a competition in France later this month.

Cowley, who also decided to pull out, has already achieved the qualification standard.
