The Wellington Phoenix has signed the Solomon Islands striker Benjamin Totori for the upcoming Australian football season.

Totori was the nemesis for the All Whites in the recent Oceania Nations Cup, scoring three times in the two games including superb goals with both feet - convincing the New Zealand and Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert he could do a job for him in the A-League.

Totori has signed from Solomons club Kolale FC on a one-year contract with the Phoenix, with an option for a second year.

The 26-year-old's netted an impressive 15 goals in 17 appearances for the Solomon Islands. He's already played in New Zealand for Youngheart Manawatu and Waitakere United.

Totori brings to 17 the number of signings for the Phoenix. A spokesman says they'll probably only sign three or four more players rather than the full complement of 23 allowed in the A-League.
