Shooter considers legal action after missing Olympic team

11:59 am on 21 June 2012

The target shooter Ryan Taylor is considering legal action in a bid to compete at the London Olympics, after claiming he's missed out on selection in the New Zealand team.

The Levin shooter has met the qualifying standard but says the New Zealand Olympic Committee won't pick him as it doesn't believe he's capable of a top 16 placing.

Taylor says he doesn't understand how that can be when he's posted scores that would've gained him third place in Beijing four years ago.

He says he's disappointed with the New Zealand Shooting Federation too, which he doesn't believe has explained his qualifying achievements properly to the NZOC.

Taylor competed at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and the Commonwealth Games in Delhi and Melbourne.

An announcement's due within 48 hours on who will take the one shooting spot for London.
