Rennie picks Latimer over Cane

While flanker Sam Cane may be the All Black selectors choice as Richie McCaw's apprentice, the Chiefs coach Dave Rennie has picked Tanerau Latimer ahead of him at openside for tomorrow night's Super rugby clash with the Highlanders.

Sam Cane had a dream start to his All Blacks career, coming on for forty minutes in the second test against Ireland and scoring two tries in his first international start in the third test.

Dave Rennie says Latimer is fresher than Sam Cane, but both will have opportunities to start in the games to come.

Rennie has also included Aaron Cruden in his starting lineup and says he's recovered from his achilles tendon injury which forced him from the field in the third All Blacks test against Ireland.

He says Cruden's fitness will be confirmed after a captain's run today.
