The Netherlands football coach Bert van Marwijk has stepped down following Holland's disastrous first round exit at Euro 2012.

The Netherlands went into Euro 2012 as title contenders after reaching the 2010 World Cup final but crashed out in last place of group B with zero points and just two goals scored in losses to Denmark, Germany and Portugal.

Van Marwijk took over the Dutch national team in 2008 from Marco van Basten.

In December 2011 he extended his contract with the Dutch federation KNVB for four years until 2016, covering the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016.
