The New Zealand golfing great Sir Bob Charles has shot an opening round of 66 - 10 years under his age.

At 76 Sir Bob is still making waves, almost half a century after he became the first left-hander to win a Major at the 1963 Open Championship.

Sir Bob moves into a share of third place on four under par at the Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open in Switzerland, where he officially retired two years ago but returned this year due to his love for the Bad Ragaz area and the golf club.

He remains the oldest player to make the cut at a European Tour event after his 23rd place finish in the 2007 New Zealand Open - aged 71 years and 261 days - and is two strokes behind the leader David J Russell.
