FIFA gives green light to goal-line technology

12:15 pm on 6 July 2012

Football's world governing body FIFA has agreed to the introduction of goal-line technology.

The green light has been given to football authorities around the world to introduce either the Hawk-Eye of GoalRef systems which have been undergoing tests.

The decision comes soon after FIFA president Sepp Blatter lent his weight to calls for the technology to be introduced after Ukraine were denied an apparent goal against England in the recent European championship, and they lost the match 1-0.

The technology will be used at the Club World Cup in Tokyo in December, the Confederations Cup in 2013 and also the World Cup in 2014.
