Britain's Bradley Wiggins has retained the overall lead after the eight stage on the Tour de France won by the youngest rider in the field.

The 22 year old Frenchman Thibaut Pinot, a climbing specialist, won his first stage on his Tour de France debut, a stage with several short but steep climbs in the Swiss Jura on which Spains' Olympic champion Samuel Sanchez crashed out.

Wiggins leads overall by 10 seconds from the defending champion Cadel Evans, with another six seconds back to the Italian Vicenzo Nibali.
