Women's hockey team arrive in London

7:54 am on 17 July 2012

The New Zealand women's hockey team has arrived at the London Olympic village, one of the first New Zealand groups into the venue.

The Black Sticks will have a couple of days training in London before heading to France for a friendly match.

Midfielder Kalya Sharland says it's good to get some extra time to get use to the village and get their sleeping patterns in place before competition begins.

That includes not attending the opening ceremony.

Some track and field athletes and footballers are also the early New Zealand arrivals in London.

The women's football team are the first side in action, playing Great Britain in the opening match next Thursday morning at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff.
