Wiggins becomes first Brit to win Tour de France

Bradley Wiggins has been crowned Britain's first Tour de France champion after helping his Sky team-mate Mark Cavendish to secure a fourth consecutive stage win on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

Wiggins, who virtually sealed victory when he won Sunday's final time trial, had a winning margin of three minutes and 21 seconds over another team-mate English Chris Froome, and third place went to the Italian Vincenzo Nibali, another three minutes back.

It is also the first time compatriots have been first and second overal on the Tour since the French pair Laurent Fignon and five-time winner Bernard Hinault quinellaed the race.
