The New Zealand triathlete Bevan Docherty has had a promising warmup result a couple of weeks out from his Olympic Games race, finishing 11th at the latest round of the ITU World Series in Hamburg, Germany.

Docherty was one of three New Zealanders using the sprint race as a final tune-up before the London race.

Kris Gemmell was 37th and Ryan Sissons 40th after suffering a flat tyre on the bike, while Olympic reserve Clark Ellice raced superbly to finish 14th.

Docherty, who won silver at the Athens Olympics in 2004, says it's been a while since he's competed in a sprint form triathlon, and he was relieved to keep up with the pacesetters.
