The Chiefs Super Rugby coach Dave Rennie says the lessons have been learnt from their loss to the Crusaders earlier this month.
The two sides square off Friday in the first semi-final and another thrilling match is expected after the Crusaders 28-21 victory less than three weeks ago.
Rennie says the Chiefs are well aware of what needs to be done to put themselves on the right side of the ledger on Friday night.
He says the hosts set piece must be markedly better than the last time the two sides played and concedes the Chiefs must attain ascendency at the breakdown against the clinical Crusaders.
The winner will face either the Stormers or the Sharks in the final
