The South African cricketers have beaten England by an innings and 12 runs in the first test at The Oval.

South Africa take a 1-nil lead in the three-match series thanks to Dale Steyn's 5 for 56 as the homeside was bowled out for 240 before tea on the final day.

A series victory will result in South Africa leapfrogging England as the number one team in the world rankings.

Steyn wrapped up England's second innings with a fiery burst with the second new ball of three for eight in his four-over spell.

It is a crushing win for South Africa, set up by their first innings of 637 for 2 with Hashim Amla scoring a triple century.

The second test is in Leeds next week and the third match at Lord's starts on August 16th.
