New Zealanders miss the cut in Illinois

The New Zealand golfers Mathew Perry and Fraser Wilkin have both missed the cut at the prestigious Western Amateur Championship in Illinois, the United States.

Wilkin carded rounds of 78 and 74 to sign for an eight over par total and miss the cut for the final two rounds of the stroke play by nine shots.

Compatriot Perry, who was recently named in the New Zealand team to contest the Eisenhower Worlds Amateur Team Championship, improved almost 20 places in the second round with an even par 72.

The former New Zealand Amateur Champion, who opened with a nine over par 81 to be in a share of 147th place, finished on a nine over par total in a share of 128th place.
